Following the agreement by the GCC to introduce VAT from 2018 across the region there is a need to recruit experienced and qualified VAT consultants to help with VAT implement and grow a new service line for Indirect tax within BDO.
This is an exciting time to be at the forefront of VAT in the GCC and the role will assist with VAT compliance and advisory services to a wide range of clients across Bahrain and Oman.
The primary responsibility will be to assist with the introduction of VAT across businesses in each of the countries and work with clients on impact assessments, pre and post implementations of VAT.
You will work closely with the VAT Director and IT specialists to provide assistance on a new portfolio of Indirect tax clients across the practice.
To act as a key point of contact within the firm for indirect tax, together with the Director. This will involve responding quickly to, as well as anticipating, client requests / needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients.
Assist with evaluating the VAT effect and implications of international business initiatives, contemplated transactions and business proposals.
Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures and client take-on are adhered to in line with the BDO risk management manual.
Identify risk and technical matters, as well as selling opportunities, to the Director, whilst exercising judgement within agreed parameters.
Provide overall support to the Director on client matters and draft responses for review.
Work as part of Indirect tax team with ability to provide technical analysis and draft reports for review by the VAT Senior Manager and sign off from VAT Director.
Raising VAT capability profile of Indirect tax team internally and externally, including knowledge sharing.
Must be able to recognize business development opportunities and inform and work with the Director and the client to develop these when they arise.
Actively participate in bids / proposals for new work.
Develop contact with clients at senior level and maintain contact with other levels as appropriate to ensure the firm has the confidence of the client.
Act as a liaison between the client and other specialist service groups within BDO.
Contribute with VAT presentations to businesses forums and lectures.
Consult with colleagues and Director on technical and risk matters.
Candidate Specification / Experience
Minimum of a Degree preferable in Finance or Accounting with specialization in tax. Professional qualification (ATT,CTA, CPA or ACCA) is preferred.
3+years previous indirect tax experience in either a government revenue body or top 10 public accounting firm.
Should have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Must have good understanding of Financial ERP systems and tax engine systems, e.g. SAP and ORACLE.
Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, solution focused and results orientated.
Should have a strong personality and excellent presentation skills.
Should be proactive with staff and clients and be able to work under pressure to meet client expectations and deadlines with ability to multi-task.
