The primary role of the Construction Superintendent is to supervise and monitor the contractors & project staff in achieving the efficient development and safe, on-time, on budget, project completion including the supervision of field erection contractor (s) within the relevant discipline.
This includes HSE implementation, contractor adherence to latest drawings and standards in implementation, quality control by maintenance of QC check sheets in accordance with quality plan.
The Construction Superintendent will also assist in developing site integrated planning strategies, team structure and contractor integration strategies.
He / she will work closely with the project management team to ensure project construction work complies with design & specifications.
Ensure regular communication and liaison with the Construction Director on field activities and ensure communication on existing or potential problems which may affect performance of the work.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with the client and strive for customer satisfaction rating that meets or exceeds expectations
Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and terms and conditions of Head Contract.
Provide supervisor and direction to discipline employees, construction supervisors, senior supervisors, sub-contractors and field engineers
Supervise and promote the cohesion of all project teams by :
Identifying and managing risk
Encouraging commitment through formulating a clear vision
Leading by example to ensure a proactive and safe work environment
Delegate to field staff and maintain supervision of their functional responsibilities, including : craft supervision, contract administration, construction control and field office administration as and when required
Make recommendations regarding the engagement of subcontractors and assist in the reviews of major subcontract variations
Ensure that contractors comply with all aspects of the Worksite HSE Plan and policy; site regulations, permit to work, Worley and Customer requirements.
Ensure by leadership and guidance that contracted works meets all practical, commercial, requirements of productivity, quality and contract target completions.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of construction contractors.
Maintain daily supervisory surveillance checks and records ensuring that contractor’s management and supervision are providing safe working conditions and permitting procedures, all required competent personnel, protective equipment, adequate supervision and manpower, with reliable, well maintained equipment to execute the contracted works as per contract schedule and targets.
Monitor and ensure work is completed in accordance with the Project Execution and HSE Management Plans and ensure full compliance to these plans.
Execute the construction portion of project plans through;
Detailed planning and day-to-day direction of field activities.
Preparation of resource forecasting
Forecasting of costs and trends.
Establish, authorise and implement construction schedules and strategy, including;
Authorise construction planning, programming and completion schedules
Ensure alignment to construction schedules, methods, adequate resourcing, material and equipment requirements
Manage any scope, cost, time and schedule changes to a project
In conjunction with the field planner, ensure the execution plan for each contract is logical, achievable and adequately resourced.
Routinely study, check and review all contractor scope as detailed in drawings, specifications and instructions, ensuring contractors proper interpretation and compliance of the drawings
Manage proper change control by issuing Field Instructions for all changes, reviewing Site Queries to ensure responses are appropriate and practical and reviewing Advanced Revision notices prior to issue to contractors to ensure correct use of construction resources.
Supervise contractors’ dimensional control methods for checking that the works are properly set out and supervise specialist surveying contractors where necessary.
Ensure Quality inspectors and contractor supervisors carry out the witness, inspection and surveillance checks in accordance with the Worley Quality Plan and the requirements of the Quality Control Manager.
Ensure that contractors are working in the required work areas, locations and elevations and that work sequence and interfaces with other contactors are both coordinated and planned to provide continuous working to meet contract schedules.
Promote and maintain Worley, Customer and contractor best practice working relationships.
Maintain site daily diary to reflect an accurate record of the status of works surveillance and inspections performed, contractor manpower and deployment etc.
Providing strong leadership and skills transfer
Communicating effectively in a range of environments and with Worley team members and Contractors
Previous trade experience combined with experience in a supervisory role.
Demonstrating excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills
Knowledgeable in the establishment and application of construction management systems, processes and tools
Well-developed technical and practical skills and able to consistently deliver quality, accurate and timely work to Worley and its customers.
Solid technical, practical and leadership experience in the relevant discipline, including experience in senior construction management positions and construction project management.
A thorough understanding of industrial construction environment and proven supervisory experience in multi-disciplinary teams.
A minimum of 20 years’ experience in the construction of major refineries, petrochemical or process plants
A minimum of 15 years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory position in the Oil & Gas Industry
Recognised trade qualifications in the relevant discipline; management or supervisory qualifications or equivalent experience
Competent in the use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite and a sound knowledge in relevant software
