JobSummary

The position is responsible forassisting the school principal in the leadership, training teacherscoordination, supervision and management of the school program andoperation.

  • Assist the principal indeveloping and maintaining an effective educational programconsistent with State and Federal guidelines and the philosophy,policies and goals of the School Board;
  • meeting and conferring withstudents, parents, faculty and staff; maintaining records andfiles; preparing reports.

  • Assist the principalin the overall administration of the school; interpret and enforceschool and school division policies and regulations.
  • Assist the principal in the transformation of the schoolculture into a results-oriented collaborative learningcommunity.
  • Support the principal in thecollaborative development, implementation, and ongoing refinementof the school’s Plan for ContinuousImprovement.
  • Ensure implementation of theBoard-approved VBCPS curriculum.
  • Assist theprincipal in monitoring compliance with federal, state, and localmandates and guidelines related to local and state testing programsand the local special education program.
  • Assist the principal in planning and implementing aprofessional development / growth program for teachers andstaff.
  • Serve as principal in the absence ofthe regular principal.
  • Propose schedules ofclasses and extracurricular activities; help schedule courses,students and teachers.
  • Work with departmentheads and faculty in compiling the annual budgetrequests.
  • Requisition supplies, textbooks, andequipment, conduct inventories, maintain records, and check onreceipts for such material.
  • Assist incoordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other schoolsupport services; help conduct safety inspections and safety drillpractice activities.
  • Assist in the reportingand monitoring of student attendance.
  • Assistin maintaining discipline throughout the student body; deal withspecial cases as necessary.
  • Serve withparents, faculty, and student groups, as requested, in advancingeducational and related activities and objectives.
  • Maintain a variety of files; prepare periodic and specialreports as required.
  • Identify the specialneeds of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance ofschool system specialists as required.
  • Supervise teachers and departments as assigned by theprincipal.
  • Explain and interpret division-widecurriculum / instructional goals and objectives to teachers, parents,pupils, and the community.
  • Assist in theplanning and implementation of a systematic method of supervisingthe instructional program through the use of learning walks,observations, documentations, and follow-up conferences.
  • Assist teachers in evaluating methods and materials anddeveloping effective learning plans and classroom managementtechniques.
  • Assist in the coordination andsupervision of guidance services.
  • Maintain andmodel high standards of professionalism.
  • Perform related work as required.
